If you are living in Denver or its neighboring cities, then you might want to look after yourself a bit better. After all, there’s a measles outbreak going on!
According to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, a person who has been diagnosed with measles last month, may have exposed himself or herself in the cities of Denver and Boulder. Health officials say that the individual was unvaccinated and had also traveled internationally. On top of that, the individual visited many places in Denver, Aurora, and Boulder around the dates of December 21-29.
Parker Adventist Hospital ER served as a treatment center for the patient from December 21- January 1st. The patient also visited AFC Urgent Care, Denver East on December 27 prior to going to the ER.
Anyone who feels like they are getting the symptoms of measles which includes fever, runny nose, red eyes, sensitivity to the sun, and coughing, should call their doctor amd ask for help. Any individual who suspects they might be infected should not directly go to the doctor’s office because they will risk the public by exposing themselves.
The symptoms usually occur 7-14 days after being infected but the signs may lag for about 21 days. After the symptoms appear, a red rash will appear on the face of the patient and eventually spreads throughout the body. A person remains contagious 4 days after the rash disappears and 4 days before it appears.
